Day 81: Moss

Another Friday is here! It was a week since my previous post and so this photo means I am caught up. I took the photo each day, but did not have time to upload them before today.

"A rolling stone gathers no moss, but it gains a certain polish." -Oliver Herford

Day 80: Teapot

I am already to day 80! By being this far into this photography blog that also means my first year of college is getting close to ending as well. Time seems to be flying. This teapot is actually for a candle.

"Strange how a teapot can represent at the same time the comforts of solitude and the pleasures of company." -Zen Haiku

Day 79: A Beautiful Sunset

What a beautiful sunset! The weather on Wednesday was crazy. Not only did it pour, but there was about golf-ball sized hail and at least one tornado in the Pittsburgh area. By sunset it had cleared up with this sunset.

"Know what you want to do, hold the thought firmly, and do every day what should be done, and every sunset will see you that much nearer the goal." -Elbert Hubbard

Day 78: Lamps Lighting the Way

Washington and Jefferson College has so much architecture for me to photograph! As the weather gets warmer I'll be able to go there more often. Here are some of the lights lining one of the dorms.

"Books are the ever burning lamps of accumulated wisdom." -George William Curtis

Day 77: Twisting on the Window

I went to the library this evening and these vines were winding and twisting up a building near by. A perfect opportunity for a photo!

"A doctor can buy his mistakes but an architect can only advise his client to plant vines." -Frank Lloyd Wright

76: Electrical Outlet

Even electrical outlets have different shapes that are fun to photograph.

"Ben Franklin may have discovered electricity- but it is the man who invented the meter who made the money" -Earl Warren

Day 75: Signs of Spring

Seeing the tulips pop up from the ground is always a great sight! A little more hope that spring is on its way.

"Life isn't a tiptoe through the tulips." -Shannon Hoon

Day 74: An Almost Full Moon

On Friday I decided to take a photograph of just the moon, the next night was the full moon, but this is pretty close. It is going to be over ten years before the moon is so close to earth again (making it the brightest and biggest it has been for quite some time).

"Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars." -Les Brown

Day 73: Moonlight

This may be my favorite picture so far. I originally wanted to get a picture of the moon, but wasn't getting the results that I wanted. I then tried some different angles and different settings and got this shot.

"A good heart is the sun and the moon; or, rather, the sun and not the moon, for it shines bright and never changes."- William Shakespeare

Day 72: Guitar Strings

Another guitar picture! My dad's guitar needs a little clean up before being played again.

"If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music... I get most joy in life out of music." -Albert Einstein

Day 71: Lock

I liked the way the lines of the door seem to go on infinitely  off the picture. Before posting this I realized that the last three pictures all have a "macro/ things you turn with your hand" theme.

"Preconceived notions are the locks on the door to wisdom." -Merry Browne

Day 70: Water Spigot

Happy Pi Day! Even though it's pi day I decided to take a picture of our water spigot instead of a math themed picture today.

"We never know the worth of water till the well is dry." -Thomas Fuller

Day 69: Doorknob

I could make a whole album centered around doorknobs. The older ones are quite interesting. I took a picture from each side of our basement door. The other side is dark wood with the black doorknob, but I liked the stark white door with the black doorknob. The contrast is fun.

"Doorknob: Read the directions and directly you will be directed in the right direction." -from Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carol

Day 68: Bowling Shoes

For the teens in Teen Speech Club they had a bowling outing after the meeting. I was able to tag along since Kristen is in the club. It was a fun evening spending it with friends, even with poor attempts to bowl.

"shopping tip: You can get shoes for 85 cents at the bowling alley." -Author Unknown

Day 67: The Writing Pen

Having the right pen is half of the work with writing. If you have the right pen, words just flow from it. Maybe that's why I'm not a great writer... I haven't found my pen yet.

"My two fingers on a typewriter have never connected with my brain. My hand on a pen does. A fountain pen. of course. Ball-point pens are only good for filling out forms on a plane." -Graham Greene

Day 66: It Runs in the Family 4

This is from the Prexie Performer's final performance of It Runs in the Family. The entire cast and crew did a wonderful job preparing for and performing.

"The theater is so endlessly fascinating because it's so accidental. It's so much like life." -Arthur Miller

Day 65: It Runs in the Family 3

This is from the second night of the Prexie Performer's production of It Runs in the Family. Leslie, played by Robert, is the son the one doctor did not know he had. All Leslie wants to do is find his father.

"Mum spoke to dad and died?" -Leslie, from It Runs in the Family

Day 64: It Runs in the Family 2

Tonight was the opening night of Washington High School's production of It Runs in the Family. It was a successful night and can not wait to see the next two nights.

"Mr. Lesely is dead." -from It Runs in the Family

Day 63: Library Visit

For my public speaking class I had to choose a controversial topic that I can turn into a informative speech, paper, and persuasive speech. I decided to discuss the topic of photojournalism ethics and when taking a photo over helping someone is too much. Since I'm on spring break I took a trip to the library and looked through their photography books and returned home with four books that should help me with my project and one book to give me ideas for this blog!

"That perfect tranquility of life, which is nowhere to be found but in retreat, a faithful friend and a good library." -Aphra Behn

Day 62: It Runs in the Family

This week Kristen is performing in the British comedy It Runs in the Family. Today was a dress rehearsal where I took a lot of shots to help with the program and to get a feel for the show this coming week. This is just one of many I could have posted. Dawson's face is priceless though.

I plan to have the nights of the performance be photos of the day. Expect more! (And even though the quote doesn't fit, I really liked the quote so decided to use it anyways.)

"The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting out aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark." -Michelangelo

Day 61: Centerpieces

This weekend I got to go to Cincinnati to see some good friends and go to a dance. The day and evening were quite enjoyable. Today's picture was of the centerpieces. I didn't see any really inspiring moments and I was having such a good time with friends that I didn't get extremely creative.

"Die when I may, I want it said of me that I plucked a weed and planted a flower where ever I thought a flower would grow." -Abraham Lincoln

Day 60: Some More Light Please

Lately it seems like I've been drawn to the glow of lights. There is just something about the warm glow that shows up well in photographs. I've taken the 60th picture though!

"An optimist is a person who sees a green light everywhere, while a pessimist sees only the red stoplight... They truly wise person is colorblind." -Albert Schweitzer

Day 59: Looking through a Chair

This is one of our dining room chairs. The detail of the backs of chairs is not something people look at that often since usually their back is to them.

"The world's greatest thinkers have often been amateurs; for high thinking is the outcome of fine and independent living, and for that a professional chair offers no special opportunities." -Havelock Ellis

Day 58: B&W 5

This past week of school was extremely busy since it was the week before spring break! I stayed up with my blog, taking a picture each day, and have finally gotten around to posting them this evening. How about a little wooden fruit?

"Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit." -Kahli Gibran

Day 57: Bricks

Today I decided to get a picture of all the stacks of bricks in my neighbors yard. They are slowly building a smoker and patio and so have all of these bricks sitting there. Without snow you could see them again.

"Let us guess that whenever we read a sentence and like it, we unconsciously store it away in our model-chamber; and it goes with the myriad of its fellows, to the building, brick by brick, of the eventual edifice which we call our style." -Mark Twain

Day 56: Lamp

February is gone and March is here! The months seem to be flying by.

"Some people stay longer in an hour than others do in a month." -William Dean Howells
